thumb_Australia's worst mining disaster's Dalyston No 20 Shaft Historical site

Two significant coal mine disasters took place here at the no 20 Shaft in Dalyston, Victoria, Australia

The first occurred during the first year of operation on the 20th February 1931, when 4 men died underground.
Then disaster strikes once again, on the 15th February 1937, in which another 13 men died underground this explosion was so powerful ,it blew the cage out of the shaft some 40 ft above the surface, and hit the poppet head, making this the worst mining disaster in Australia's history.

The newspaper of the day "the Canberra Times" can be read from the national archives. (Link Below)

This second disaster, in which Thirteen miners were killed from the explosion, resulted in a successful national campaign to improve  conditions for all Australian miners.

So at least some good came from the sad deaths of these miners.
May they rest in piece.

The Dalyston township today, is nothing more than a few assorted stones and cement slabs laying around, and allotment numbers found on  maps of the area.

Free Campsites and Low Cost RV Camping grounds in Victoria, Australia

We are always looking at ways to improve our site and are pleased to announce our Free and low Cost Campsite Maps area is now open.

I'm a great fan of cheap caravan holidays, and if you have a Dog, we have added a Pet Friendly field as well.

Our map of Victoria is fully operational, plus you can comment on any of the entries you choose in our dedicated camping forum Victoria section.

We have listed on our Victoria Map:
Free RV Camping grounds, including Low Cost Stopovers, Rest Areas, Cheap Caravan Parks, Dump Points, Visitor Information Centre, Sight seeing and things to do along the way, all can now be found in one convenient map location.
Dog friendly campsites Victoria:
We have also included Pet Friendly campsites which are fully searchable, and have there own tabbed menu system.

Also included whenever possible, is an interactive map and of the location, water availability, toilets, fireplaces, shade and things to do once your there.

To make it easy for you to make up your mind if you would like to stay at one of our listed locations overnight, I have added photos from Google earth showing GPS coordinates to each campsite we have listed, and also included them in our maps. At most campsites you will be able to see if your caravan, motor home or tent will fit.

My thoughts are to create a single website to visit, that caters for all Australian locations in one place, each is packed Now you can make an informed choice as to which of cheap caravan holidays you would like to go on.

Database Area

You can select the things that will make your camping adventure more enjoyable, such as Dog and Pet Friendly, or Childrens Playground availability, onsite water, toilets etc.
