Listing Details
The Karalee Rocks Camping Area is a nice place to stay, there is a flushing toilet and an RV black water dump point, picnic tables and fire pits. You can swim in the dam, or catch a feed of yabbies. The camping area has lots of shade to park your caravan.
The Karalee Water Catchment System was built back in the late 1800’s to catch the rain flow runoff from two very large granite rocks.
The rocks are surrounded by an 800mm high wall, with an opening that leads to a cross-country flume and aqueduct system that then leads to a dam.
The water was then pumped 3.6 kms south to tanks at a railway station. The Karalee Rocks System was the fourth largest in the Eastern Goldfields and was heralded as one of the most ambitious and successful engineering feats on the late 19th Century.
